2024 West Sac Dems Year in Review

Our club focused on endorsements, fundraising, and elections activities as well as educational and community orientated activities. Here is a recap:

Endorsements:

In January 2024, we held an endorsement meeting for California Senate District 3, and endorsed Christopher Cabaldon who went on to win top two in the March 2024 primary and the Senate seat in the November 2024 general election. He is the first person from West Sacramento to serve in the California legislature.

The endorsement committee met over the summer and reached out to all democratic local candidates who were running, developed and reviewed the endorsement questionnaire and vetted candidates who responded to determine if they were viable.

In August we held two endorsement meetings for all club members- one for city council candidates and one for school board candidates.

As a result of our endorsements meetings we endorsed nine local measures and candidates. Of the nine we endorsed, seven won their races and another one was decided by less than 50 votes.

Election Activities:

In the March 2024 primary election, we had four members of our club run and all were elected to serve on the Yolo County Democratic Central Committee.

For the November 2024 election we put out a mailer and a text to local democrats with our locally endorsed candidates and Measure O. We also contributed to the Harris campaign.

We helped coordinate two large walk days for our locally endorsed candidates and Measure O.

In coordination with Sister District Yolo, we held a postcard to voters event for statewide critical swing districts.

We held in-person mixers and get-togethers throughout the year in addition to our regular Zoom meetings, some of those were:

  • A spring mixer in March.

  • A drive to collect diapers for the Yolo Diaper Bank in May.

  • Marching as a club in the Pride Parade in June.

  • Our annual fundraiser on the farm in September- our biggest event of the year.

  • A winter get-together in December.

We helped locally through various community activities including:

  • Donated diapers to the Yolo Diaper Bank.

  • A large group participated in the Sacramento Pride Parade.

  • Some club members provided staffing at the Yolo Central Committee’s Yolo County Fair Booth in August.

  • Helped with and some members attended the Yolo County Election kick-off event organized through Indivisible Yolo and Sister District Yolo in August.

  • A postcards to voters event with Sister District Yolo in September.

  • Held a presidential debate watch party with Sacramento Stonewall Democrats and Davis College Democrats in September.

Fundraising

We held our club’s second annual fundraiser in September and it was a wonderful event attended by more than 80 supporters from across the region. Our guest speaker was Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.

Thank you!

Every aspect of this club is run entirely by volunteers- juggling families, work, school or other obligations and we are so grateful for what everyone gives on top of their busy lives. We could not have done what we did this year without the help, support, and involvement of our members, so thank-you!
